About the Role
Are you a skilled technician looking to take your career to new heights? We are seeking an experienced Airfield Maintenance Foreman (8850) to perform skilled repair, grounds keeping, and mechanical maintenance across our airfield surfaces, hangars, and facilities. In addition to hands-on technical work, this role serves as a crucial lead worker, stepping in to direct the maintenance team and coordinate projects in the absence of the Supervisor.

What You'll Do (Work Responsibilities)
Equipment Maintenance: Repair and maintain a variety of light and heavy construction equipment, including tractors, lawnmowers, sweeper trucks, road graders, backhoes, weed eaters, and chainsaws using basic mechanical and hand tools.
Airfield Operations & Heavy Equipment: Operate automotive and heavy equipment to pave surfaces, haul dirt, gravel, and asphalt, and cut grass in strict compliance with safety and security policies.
Systems & Mechanical Repair: Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain automatic gates, backup generators, runway/taxiway lighting systems, and related airport mechanical devices.
Facility Maintenance: Perform general facility upkeep involving basic carpentry, plumbing, painting (including runway paint striping), and electrical repairs.
Team Leadership: Serve as a lead worker for small crews; assign, direct, and oversee the work of Airfield Maintenance Technicians to ensure projects are completed safely and efficiently.
What You'll Need (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities)
Technical Aptitude: Strong knowledge of electrical systems/controls (specifically to isolate runway lighting and gate issues), as well as basic methods in carpentry, painting, plumbing, and asphalt/concrete repair.
Equipment Mastery: Skill in safely operating and diagnosing defects in both gasoline and diesel engines, alongside heavy automotive and maintenance machinery.
Safety & Compliance: Familiarity with occupational hazards, safety precautions, and FAA/Airport Authority rules regarding runway security, approaches, and operations.
Communication & Collaboration: Ability to effectively use a two-way radio, follow complex written repair manuals, and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, tenants, and the public.
Leadership Capabilities: Demonstrated ability to instruct workers by demonstrating proper maintenance practices, offering verbal guidance, and taking corrective actions to oversee project completion.
Position Requirements & Physical Demands
Must be comfortable working outdoors in extreme temperatures, rain, wind, and dusty/dirty conditions.
Physical Demands: Physical ability to walk, stoop, bend, crawl, climb, and lift/move weights up to 50 pounds regularly.
Scheduling: Must be available to work nights, weekends, and participate in a weekly "on-call" shift rotation.
Security & Licensing: Must possess and maintain a valid Alabama Driver’s License with an insurable driving record. Must successfully pass a 5-year employment verification and criminal background check (including fingerprinting) to satisfy Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Three (3) years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of light and heavy automotive/construction equipment (experience in airfield maintenance is highly preferred).
Supplemented by at least one (1) year of experience serving in a lead worker or supervisory capacity.
An equivalent combination of qualifying education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.
